At Car.co.uk, service comes first

Very few people scrap cars often – so the process can sometimes feel a little intimidating. With this in mind, we’ve created a scrapping process that couldn’t be simpler or friendly.

Our commitment to service starts with the quotes we offer. Since we have a dismantler network than spans the whole of the UK, we can instantly return the best price for your specific make and model.

When you’ve got a great price, we’ll make sure your vehicle’s collected at the time that’s right for you – even working hard to fit around work, school collections, and other commitments.

To make sure your responsibility for your vehicle is totally done when it’s removed, we’ll even make sure our collection driver supports you to complete your DVLA paperwork too. Top prices, and a straightforward scrapping service!

Your vehicle will help us support charity projects

Unfortunately, road safety in County Durham is falling short of international targets designed to reduce serious accidents on our roads. As a result, the area sees more than its fair share of accidents with road traffic collision numbers totally almost 3,500 in the last 12 months.

Naturally, such a large figure puts a strain on local authorities and emergency services – but at Car.co.uk, we give back to local social value programmes. A portion of the profit that’s created when we help you sell your car will be used to fund services for vulnerable people – including breakfast clubs, communities cafes, and support living homes.

Making the motor industry work for local communities

How will your car help us to continue our support of UK charities and good causes?

When you recycle your old or damaged vehicle by selling with Car.co.uk, you won't just get the best scrap car prices in County Durham – you also get to know that a portion of our profits from each car we scrap will be used to grow incredible social value projects across the country.

The projects we support include:

  • Offender employment and rehabilitation schemes
  • Food banks and school breakfast clubs
  • Assisted living provisions for vulnerable people

As well as providing much-needed support for the people who directly access these initiatives, the benefits are felt much more widely in local communities – often easing the pressure on taxpayer-funded services.

Frequently asked questions

Got a question for the team? Why not explore our FAQs and see if you can find the answer you’re looking for?

Firstly – don’t worry, we understand that people’s circumstances sometimes change. If you do need to cancel – it’s important to let us know as soon as possible; that way, we can cancel your collection and make sure no one is billed for a wasted journey.

An End of Life Vehicle (ELV) is a car that can no longer be used on UK roads – and therefore must be scrapped. ELVs must be disposed of by Authorised Treatment Facilities that will handle the scrap materials in a way that follows Environment Agency guidelines.

Both you and the person collecting your car will need to complete section 9 of the official DVLA V5C document. This confirms that you have sold your car to a scrap yard. It’s your responsibility to make sure this is completed and sent, but the collection partner who picks your car up will be more than happy to help.

Yes, that’s fine. The law that covers scrap car collection simply requires that someone over the age of 18 is with the car – but it doesn’t have to be the owner or registered keeper. Your nominated person will still need to show our collection driver proof of ID (a passport or driving licence is ideal) – and, if you can’t provide the log book with the car, a proof of address too.

To declare your car as being kept off the road, you’ll need to make a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN). To do so, contact the DVLA, either through their dedicated internet service or by post.

Yes, it is. When our collection partner comes to pick up your car, they’ll make a few quick checks to ensure the car was described accurately when we provided a quote – but as long as it was, the price we offered is the price you’ll receive.
