Van scrappage trends across the UK
After helping over 100k drivers, we’ve got tons of insights: average payouts, top models and more.

Updated August, 2025
We analysed 4,570 vans scrapped across the UK and found the top makes were Ford (1,084), Vauxhall (926), Citroen (508), Peugeot (427), and Renault (371). These figures reflect the popularity of these vans for business use, meaning parts are often readily available and scrap values may be more competitive for these models.

These models are widely used by businesses and trades, which is why they commonly reach the end of their life cycle and are processed for recycling and parts recovery.","data":[{"name":"Ford Transit","value":235},{"name":"Vauxhall Combo","value":189},{"name":"Citroen Berlingo Van","value":101},{"name":"Peugeot Partner","value":112},{"name":"Renault Trafic","value":95}]},{"tab":"Age of vans scrapped","summary":"The majority of vans we scrapped were between 17 and 21 years old, with 532 at age 18 and 524 at 19. This shows that vans in the UK are often kept in service for nearly two decades, especially by trades and fleets. By this point, rising maintenance and repair costs often make scrapping the more practical choice.","data":[{"name":"18 years old","value":532},{"name":"19 years old","value":524},{"name":"20 years old","value":461},{"name":"17 years old","value":445},{"name":"21 years old","value":404}]},{"tab":"Most common van MOT Failures","summary":"Many vans fail MOTs due to recurring wear-and-tear issues rather than major faults. The most common problems included oil leaks (864), worn tyres (300 nearside, 290 offside), worn brake discs (211) and minor windscreen damage (206). This reflects how hard vans are typically worked, often used daily for business or trade. It’s common for them to be scrapped only after years of heavy use and long-distance driving.","data":[{"name":"0-50k miles","value":162},{"name":"50-75k miles","value":109},{"name":"75-100k miles","value":334},{"name":"100-125k miles","value":761},{"name":"125k+ miles","value":3133}]},{"tab":"Fuel type of vans scrapped","summary":"Nearly all the vans we scrapped ran on diesel, with 4,488 compared to just 72 petrol.
