Quick Service and Instant Payment
I recently used a car scrapping service and was really impressed with how quick and straightforward the whole process was. From the moment I contacted them, everything was handled professionally. They arranged collection at a time that suited me, and the driver was polite and efficient. What really stood out was how quickly they transferred the payment — the money went straight into my bank account immediately after the car was collected. There was no hassle, no hidden fees, and everything was exactly as promised. If you’re looking for a smooth, no-stress way to scrap your car and get paid on the spot, I’d definitely recommend this service.

Quick and Convenient Vehicle Scrappage
This was a quick and easy way to scrap our old vehicle. The online evaluation check was useful and produced a similar price to what we expected. It only took a few moments to book a collection date and time, and this was confirmed via text and email. On collection day I was texted further confirmation and called by the driver to inform of his eta. The driver was informative and professional. The purchase was accepted and the payment okayed, with the money transferred immediately. Overall, and great service and would recommend.

We analysed 4,570 vans scrapped across the UK and found the top makes were Ford (1,084), Vauxhall (926), Citroen (508), Peugeot (427), and Renault (371). These figures reflect the popularity of these vans for business use, meaning parts are often readily available and scrap values may be more competitive for these models.

Fleet disposal statistics across the UK

bulb-icon

The average mileage of vans entering fleet disposal was 154,688 miles, highlighting how most commercial vehicles are fully utilised before being offloaded. At this stage, rising maintenance costs often make disposal the most cost-effective decision.

bulb-icon

One of the oldest vans processed through fleet disposal was a Renault Trafic registered in 1985, reaching 40 years on the road. While some fleet vehicles remain operational for decades, escalating repair and compliance costs eventually drive disposal.

bulb-icon

The highest mileage van handled through fleet disposal was an LDV Maxus with 916,078 miles recorded. It demonstrates the longevity of certain fleet vehicles, but even the most durable assets ultimately reach end-of-life.

The vast majority of vans in fleet disposal were manual (96.28%), with only 2.06% automatic. While manuals still dominate commercial fleets, the shift towards automatic vehicles is gradually increasing as well as EV versions.

Fleet disposal FAQs

What is company fleet disposal?
Dropdown Icon

Fleet disposal is the process of selling, scrapping or otherwise getting rid of vehicles a business no longer needs. That might be because a lease has ended, vehicles have hit a mileage threshold, the fleet is transitioning to EVs or a company is just downsizing.

The goal of company fleet disposal is to recover as much value as possible from those assets while handling the legal and logistical aspects of deregistration, compliance documentation and collection without it becoming a project in itself.

How can I get the best value for my fleet vehicles?
Dropdown Icon

To get the best value for your fleet vehicles, it’s best to use a disposal partner with access to both scrap and remarketing channels.

If you go straight to a scrapper, every vehicle gets treated the same regardless of whether it still has resale value. A service like Car.co.uk will route each vehicle to whichever outcome pays more, whether that's scrap price or auction through our trader network.

Beyond that, timing matters. Scrap metal prices and used vehicle demand both fluctuate, so getting a valuation before you actually need to dispose of it gives you the option to move when conditions are good rather than when you're up against a deadline.

How quickly can my fleet be collected nationwide?
Dropdown Icon

Collection times vary depending on fleet size and location, but in most cases we can arrange pickup the same day as or next day after you confirm a disposal. Our nationwide network of collectors covers the whole of the UK, so geography isn't a limiting factor; whether you've got vehicles sitting across multiple sites or a single depot in a rural area, we can reach them.

We can also phase larger fleets across multiple collection runs to fit around your operations, so there's no need to have everything ready at once.

How does fleet remarketing work with Car.co.uk?
Dropdown Icon

When you submit your fleet for disposal, we assess the value of each vehicle individually rather than treating the whole fleet as scrap by default. Any vehicle that still has resale value gets routed through our trader and auction network instead of straight to the crusher, meaning you get more back on those vehicles than a straight scrap price would give you.

Our trader and auction network isn’t accessible to the public, so you're effectively getting trade-level returns without needing any existing relationships in the industry. The network is nationwide, so we know we’ll be able to sell it once it’s listed. That’s why we’re able to pick up any car in any condition for free!

What documentation do I need to provide for fleet disposal?
Dropdown Icon

For fleet disposal, you’ll need to provide our collection team with the V5C logbook for each vehicle, proof of identity as the registered keeper and a copy of your Companies House registration. If someone other than a registered director is handling the disposal on the business's behalf, they'll need a formal authorisation letter on company letterhead.

Are commercial vehicles treated differently in the disposal process?
Dropdown Icon

Yes, vans, HGVs and other commercial vehicles follow the same End-of-Life Vehicle directive as cars, but sometimes require specialist Authorised Treatment Facilities (ATFs) which are equipped to handle larger, heavier vehicles.

The documentation requirements are also stricter. If a commercial vehicle is classed as hazardous waste, a consignment note is required for transportation and businesses have to keep records to comply with duty of care regulations.

That consignment note has three parts, each with a different owner. As the fleet operator, you're the waste producer. You complete Parts A and B before the vehicle moves, and sign Part D when the carrier arrives.

The transporting business completes Part C and ensures the note travels with the vehicle to its destination.

The ATF then completes Part E to confirm they've accepted it for disposal. Car.co.uk will walk you through exactly what's needed for your specific vehicles when you get your quote, so nothing gets missed.

Can I combine fleet disposal and remarketing services with Car.co.uk?
Dropdown Icon

Yes, you can combine fleet disposal and remarketing services, and that's actually how most fleet disposals work with us. Rarely does an entire fleet fall neatly into one category; some vehicles will be worth more through our trader and auction network, others are better off scrapped.

We assess each vehicle individually and route it accordingly, so you're not leaving money on the table by treating everything the same way. You get one process and one point of contact, so you’ll have the best return we can get across the whole fleet.

How much will I get for my fleet vehicles?
Dropdown Icon

The amount you’ll get for each fleet vehicle depends on its make, model, age, condition and mileage. There's no single number that covers an entire fleet. A three-year-old van in decent condition will return significantly more than a high-mileage diesel car that's been sitting unused.

The best way to get a real figure is to run your regs through our valuation tool, which gives you an instant estimate based on live market data and our own pricing history across 130,000+ vehicle disposals.

What we quote is what we pay. Assuming there are no major differences in condition from what was reported, there will be no last-minute adjustments at collection.

Is the fleet disposal process legal and fully compliant?
Dropdown Icon

Yes, every disposal carried out through Car.co.uk is fully compliant with UK law. That includes the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013, which governs how scrap vehicles are bought and paid for, and the End-of-Life Vehicles Regulations, which set the standards for how vehicles are depolluted, dismantled and recycled.

When we scrap a vehicle, we issue Certificates of Destruction and handle DVLA deregistration, so your business is legally in the clear from the moment the vehicle is collected. Payment is always by bank transfer (no cash), which is both a legal requirement and a paper trail you'll want for your own records.

Does Car.co.uk handle all fleet disposal paperwork?
Dropdown Icon

Car.co.uk takes care of DVLA deregistration, Certificate of Destruction (CoD) issuance and all compliance documentation required under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013. Once collection is confirmed, you don’t have to worry about anything.

We'll send through confirmation of each transaction for your own records (which covers you for accounting, insurance and end-of-lease purposes) but the actual admin burden sits entirely with us.

It’s worth mentioning that even though we handle everything, it’s still your responsibility to make certain each vehicle’s been deregistered in the eyes of the DVLA. So we always recommend verifying this on your end as well.

Are there any hidden fees in the fleet disposal process?
Dropdown Icon

There are no hidden fees when you dispose of your fleet with Car.co.uk. The price we quote is the price we pay, and collection is free nationwide regardless of vehicle condition or location. There are no admin fees, processing charges or deductions applied after the fact, assuming the vehicles we’re picking up are as described.

Can Car.co.uk help with end-of-life vehicle disposal for fleets
Dropdown Icon

End-of-life vehicle disposal is our whole business, and fleets are most certainly part of it! Whether your vehicles have hit the end of a lease, exceeded their mileage thresholds or are just no longer roadworthy, we collect, process and pay for them.

Every disposal is handled through a licensed Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF), so it’s fully compliant with the UK’s End-of-Life Vehicle Regulations. You’re covered legally and environmentally without having to think about it.

Can I get a fleet disposal quote for multiple vehicles at once?
Dropdown Icon

Yes, enter each vehicle's reg and we'll return an instant valuation for the full fleet. There's no limit on fleet size, and each vehicle is assessed individually so you get an accurate breakdown rather than a blanket figure. If you're disposing of a large fleet, you can also get in touch directly and we'll handle the valuation process with you.

What are the environmental standards followed during fleet disposal?
Dropdown Icon

All vehicles disposed of through Car.co.uk are processed at licensed Authorised Treatment Facilities in line with the End-of-Life Vehicles Regulations. That means every vehicle is fully depolluted before dismantling, including fluids, batteries, tyres and other hazardous components are removed and handled separately to prevent environmental contamination.

From there, materials are sorted for recycling, with UK ATFs required to recover at least 95% of a vehicle's weight and recycle a minimum of 85%. Certificates of Destruction are issued for every scrapped vehicle, giving your business a documented record that disposal was handled responsibly and legally.
