Your car will help us give something back

Each year, Cornwall’s roads see almost 4,000 road traffic accidents – a staggering number that is estimated to add over £135 to every local resident’s local authority tax rates.

At Car.co.uk, we believe cars that have been damaged in accidents like these should give something back to local people – so that’s what we do.

When you scrap your car using our service, a portion of the profit it will go on to generate for our business will be used to financially support some of the UK’s best-loved charities and community projects.

Using scrap cars to create real social value around the UK

An unbeatable deal for your scrap car can also be life-changing for vulnerable people around the country

When we help you to find the best scrap car prices from vehicle recyclers in the Cornwall area, our unique way of working means we're also providing an incredible service for a number of charities and good causes, both in the UK and abroad.

The social value projects we support include:

  • Supported living schemes for people who may otherwise face homelessness
  • Food redistribution networks that ensure no good food goes to waste
  • HMP Academies and training programmes designed to reduce reoffending

While the charity work provides an obvious benefit for the people who engage with it – a wider, overall effect is felt by communities when these projects ease the strain on the police, the courts, social housing resources, and the benefits system.

Frequently asked questions

Got a question for the team? Why not explore our FAQs and see if you can find the answer you’re looking for?

Yes, that’s okay. Your friend will have to show our collection driver a proof of ID (ideally a passport or driving licence) to make sure our scrap partner is operating within the law. Also, if you don’t have the V5C log book document for the car, they will also need to provide a proof of their address – although this doesn’t have to match the location the car’s being collected from.

You can declare your car as SORN (Statutory Off-Road Notification) by visiting the DVLA website and following their online process. This will mean you can no longer drive or store your car on a public road.

Yes, it is. Every car our partners buy is subject to a visual inspection to ensure it was described correctly when the quote was issued – but as long as it was, the price you were offered is the price you’ll be paid.

An ELV (End of Life Vehicle) is a car that’s no longer suitable for use on the road – either because of general wear and tear or because of damage that’s been caused in an accident.

If you need to cancel your collection it’s important that you let us know as quickly as possible. Some of our specialist scrap partners travel a long way to collect cars, so they will sometimes make a charge for wasted journeys.

The part of the log book you need to complete will depend on when the document was issued. Most V5 log books were issued before April 2019 and require section 9 to be completed and sent back. However, for newer documents issued after April 2019, you will need to complete section 4. These sections are virtually identical – it’s just the order of the form that’s altered.
