We make scrapping a car simple

We realise that few people scrap more than one car in their time as a driver. This is why we’ve taken the scrapping process and made it simple and straightforward.

Our commitment to providing a quick and easy process starts with the prices we offer. You won’t get an average price from Car.co.uk – you’ll get the very best price we can find from our entire network, instantly.

Of course, we also realise that most scrap cars are not safe to be driven on the road, so we’ll come and collect yours from you completely free of charge. When we do, our collection driver will even help you to complete all your DVLA paperwork – so you can be absolutely confident that your responsibility for the car is tied up when it leaves.

Your scrap car could change people’s lives

Car accidents cost local authorities millions of pounds every year. In fact last year, the 3,300 accidents that occurred on Somerset’s roads cost local authorities a combined £118 million – with most of the strain being carried by emergency services.

At Car.co.uk, we do everything possible to make sure cars that have been damaged in accidents like these give something back to the local communities in the area.

When you sell your scrap car using our service, it helps us make a profit for our business – and we use part of that money to support charities and good causes around the country.

As well as being positive for the environment, recycling your old or damaged car with Car.co.uk means we can:

Social value projects like these don't just positively impact the people who access them – their effect can be felt much more widely – not least by reducing the strain on the emergency services, local healthcare provisions, and wider social care services – all of which are often close to breaking point.

Frequently asked questions

Got a question about scrapping your car? No problem! We’ve covered a few of our customer’s most common queries here.

Yes we can. We’re used to dealing with cars with missing or badly damaged parts, so our collection partners have the means to collect cars that have missing wheels.

You can. It’s important to remember that cars with no missing parts often attract a slightly higher price, but it’s never a problem to collect a car that has missing components.

The scrap value of a car depends on how much the vehicle weighs. As a result, some larger cars are worth significantly more than smaller, lighter vehicles. However, we’ll always look for prices from specialist scrap dealers to make sure you get the best price for your specific make and model.

Yes. Although the V5C registration document looks complex, it’s actually fairly straightforward. The only part you’ll need to complete is section 9 – or, on documents issued after April 2019, section 4. Don’t worry if you have questions though, our scrap collection driver will be happy to help.

An authorised treatment facility (ATF) is the name used to describe a scrap yard that has proved it follows government, environment agency, and DVLA guidelines around how a scrap car should be processed. Since ATFs are the only scrap yards that can begin the DVLA scrapping process, they’re the only scrap yards we deal with.

No, you don’t. The law surrounding scrap cars stipulates that someone must be with your vehicle when it’s collected – but it doesn’t have to be the owner. If you’re planning to nominate someone else, please make sure they have a form of photo ID with them (a passport or driving licence is ideal) and if you can’t provide the V5C with the car, they’ll need to show a proof of address too.
