Supporting charities and good causes around the country

In the last 10 years, serious accident numbers have dropped 4% on Gloucestershire roads. Despite this improvement, crashes still cost local authorities over £112 million each year – a figure that breaks down to around £184 per taxpaying resident.

At Car.co.uk, we think the cars damaged in accidents like these should give something back to the communities that help to pay for the cost of poor road safety – that’s why, for every car that we help a customer to scrap, we’re able to continue financially supporting a range of charities up and down the country.

Using scrap cars to support vulnerable people

A great deal for your scrap car in Gloucestershire also creates life-changing charity donations.

At Car.co.uk, we're proud to support a large number of charities and good causes in the UK and abroad – and your scrap car quote will help us to continue these important contributions.

As well as being positive for the environment, recycling your old or damaged car with Car.co.uk means we can:

  • Fund HMP training academies
  • Support assisted living schemes
  • Help to grow food redistribution networks

Social value projects like these don't just positively impact the people who access them – their effect can be felt much more widely – not least by reducing the strain on the emergency services, local healthcare provisions, and wider social care services – all of which are often close to breaking point.

Frequently asked questions

It’s normal to have questions about scrapping a car! We’ve covered a few here – but you’re welcome to get in touch if you can’t see the answer you need.

Assuming you want to keep your private registration, you can ‘retain’ it before the car is collected. As long as you complete this process before the car’s scrapped, it will transfer the number plate to a certificate so you can use it in the future for a different vehicle.

Yes, that’s no problem. Assuming your log book was issued before April 2019, you’ll just need to complete section 9 – before returning it to the DVLA address on the rear. If your log book was issued after April 2019, the process is exactly the same – it’s just that the section you now need to complete is now called section 4. Don’t worry if you’re not 100% certain about what to complete, our scrap collection driver will be happy to help.

Yes we do. The person who collects your car will carry out a quick visual inspection – but as long as the vehicle was accurately described when we provided a quote, the price you’ve been offered is the price you’ll receive.

No, they don’t. You’ll be paid promptly after collection. Our scrap yards work in the way to make sure the car was described accurately when the quote was issued.

An ATF (short for Authorised Treatment Facility) is the name given to scrap yard that meets the strict regulations around the processing of scrap metals and materials produced when a car is destroyed. The official DVLA scrapping process can only be carried out by an ATF scrap yard.

ELV is the name used to describe a car that has reached the end of its life – hence ‘End of Life Vehicle’. Cars generally become ELVs due to damage caused in an accident or age-related wear and tear.
