Great service
I recently had my old car collected and I couldn’t be happier with the service. From start to finish, everything was handled smoothly and I was kept informed throughout the whole process. The driver, Roy, was excellent – really friendly, professional, and informative, which made the whole experience easy and stress-free. The payment was transferred instantly upon collection, which was a huge plus. Overall, a fantastic service and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to scrap their car.

Highly recommended !!
Car.co.uk offered the best price by far out of all the sites I had got quotes from. The whole process was really easy to arrange and sort out a collection. I had a few enquiries and the different guys that I spoke to at customer enquiries was really friendly and helpful. I asked for an early/ first pick up and was told they would do their best. The night before I received a text asking if a 6:30am pick up would be possible. I agreed. Earlier the better for me. The morning of the pick up I had a call from the driver (John) who informed me he wasn’t far and sure enough he arrived on the agreed time. When he arrived he was so helpful and really friendly. The car was on the back of the lorry and paperwork sorted all within 15 mins. Can’t recommend these guys enough and I would definitely use again.

They do what they say they do. Excellent.
I was contacted well in advance regarding the collection of my vehicle. Steve the driver phoned me and asked if he could collect sooner than booked. This was OK with me. When he arrived he was friendly and courteous and because of the advanced notification, gave me time to have everything ready for the handover. The money was transferred to my account within minutes. A great service and one that I would recommend to anyone wanting to dispose of a vehicle.

Scrap my car in Barnstaple FAQs

How much is my scrap car worth in Barnstaple?
Dropdown Icon

The average price paid for a scrap car in Barnstaple is £187, but this price can change depending on the weight, condition, make and model of the vehicle, as well as current scrap metal prices and whether the vehicle has stronger salvage value than pure recycling value. For a live figure, check our scrap car prices. Just enter your registration details to get a scrap car quote in under 30 seconds.

Do I need to be present for the collection in Barnstaple?
Dropdown Icon

No, you don't have to be there in person when we collect your scrap car in Barnstaple. You can nominate someone else to meet the driver, as long as they're over 18 and have the keys, identification, and all the agreed paperwork.

Can I scrap a car without a V5C logbook?
Dropdown Icon

Yes, you can scrap a car without a V5C logbook, but not having it will mean the scrapping process likely takes slightly longer. You'll need photo ID, proof of address, and supporting ownership evidence such as MOT certificates or service history in place of the missing logbook, and we'll explain what else is needed before collection is arranged.

Do I need to notify the DVLA when I scrap my car?
Dropdown Icon

No, Car.co.uk notifies the DVLA during the CoD process, so you just need to provide your V5C logbook details. Once the Certificate of Destruction has been issued, you're removed from the register as the previous owner and no longer responsible for the vehicle.

How does scrap car payment work?
Dropdown Icon

Payment for scrap vehicles is always made by bank transfer, never in cash. The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 prohibits paying cash for cars when it comes to vehicle recycling transactions. The price you see is the price paid on collection, with no last-minute reductions, so you'll know the amount in advance.

What documents do I need to scrap my car in Barnstaple?
Dropdown Icon

You'll need your vehicle's V5C log book to scrap it in Barnstaple, as well as photo ID and proof of address. If you don't have your V5C, you can still proceed with alternative ownership evidence. We'll guide you through the required paperwork so the collection and transfer are handled compliantly and hassle free.

Will I receive a Certificate of Destruction?
Dropdown Icon

Yes, if you request one, we will issue a Certificate of Destruction within 7 days of processing. Car.co.uk takes care of DVLA notifications automatically, and the CoD removes you from the DVLA register, so you're no longer responsible for the vehicle.

Can I scrap a car with outstanding finance?
Dropdown Icon

No, you'll need to settle any outstanding balance before scrapping a financed vehicle. You can ask the finance company for consent to do so, and we'll help you with this process if necessary.

Can I scrap a car with no MOT in Barnstaple?
Dropdown Icon

Yes, you can scrap a car with no MOT in Barnstaple. MOT status doesn't affect the valuation or prevent collection. For older vehicles dealing with damp coastal conditions and/or MOT failures involving brakes, tyres, exhaust corrosion, or battery issues, the only practical requirement is that the car is accessible for collection. Keep in mind that narrow roads in and around Barnstaple can affect collection.

What is the difference between scrapping and salvaging?
Dropdown Icon

Scrapping is when a vehicle is dismantled and recycled for scrap metal value under the ELV directive. Salvaging is when a vehicle retains enough worth for resale as a whole salvage car for parts. Car.co.uk always assesses both routes and chooses the one that gives the best return for the owner.
