What does the phrase ELV mean?

An ELV – or ‘End of Life Vehicle’ – is the name given to a car that can no longer be used on the road – either as a result of accident damage or wear and tear. ELVs must be disposed of at Authorised Treatment Facilities.

Do I need to be present at the time of collection?

No. Scrap collection law states that someone must be with your car – but it doesn’t have to be the owner or keeper. If you plan to nominate someone else, please make sure they’re over the age of 18 – and can provide photographic proof of their ID. Your nominated person may also need to show proof of their address too – if you cannot provide a V5C document with the car.

Can you create CODs for insurance companies?

When your car is processed by an authorised treatment facility, they will contact the DVLA – who then create the COD. This certificate is then sent to our scrap partner – and they’ll make sure a copy is forwarded to you as soon as they receive it.

What is an ATF?
