Sell your car FAQs

How do I sell my car with Carwow?
Dropdown Icon
To sell your car with Carwow, simply enter your registration number for a free valuation, provide a few details about your car, and upload some photos. Carwow’s team will then help you agree on a reserve price – the minimum amount you’d be happy to sell for.
Carwow takes care of the rest. They advertise your car in their online auction to over 5,500 trusted dealers who can place bids. Once the auction ends, Carwow will notify you of the result, and the winning dealer will arrange free collection and payment.
How long does it take to sell?
Dropdown Icon
Carwow can help you sell in as little as 24 hours. Once your listing is approved, your car enters one of their daily auctions. The speed of sale depends on demand, but if it doesn’t sell immediately, Carwow will continue to show your car for an extra two days.
When you accept an offer, the dealer will arrange collection at a time that works for you, so be sure to have your documents ready to avoid delays.
What types of cars do Carwow accept?
Dropdown Icon
Carwow helps sell all kinds of cars, provided they haven’t been used as service vehicles (e.g. taxis, ambulances) or classed as insurance write-offs.
They also handle vans (LCVs), so if you’re selling one, Carwow can help you get a competitive price.
Can I sell a car with a private reg plate?
Dropdown Icon
Yes – you can sell a car with a private plate. If you’d like to keep the plate, Carwow recommends putting it on retention before listing your vehicle. This currently costs £80 (as of 2025) and requires your V5C document.
Is it free to sell my car with Carwow?
Dropdown Icon
Yes – selling your car through Carwow is completely free. There are no admin fees, hidden charges, or costs involved.
What information do I need to sell my car with Carwow?
Dropdown Icon
To list your car, you’ll need your registration number, clear photos, and details such as mileage and service history.
On collection day, you’ll also need:
  • V5C logbook
  • Driving licence
  • Service history
  • Spare keys
  • Finance settlement letter (if applicable)
  • Locking wheel nut (if applicable)
Can I sell my car with outstanding finance?

  • If your car sells for more than the settlement figure, you’ll receive the difference (positive equity).
  • If it sells for less, you’ll need to cover the shortfall (negative equity).
Keep in mind, the exact process may vary depending on your finance agreement.
